Single Change Thermal Paints are now colour fast in direct sunlight, resistant to chemical abuse and provide a clearline colour change, proving to be an extremely useful aid to the industrial, chemical and petrochemical markets.

An ideal tool for monitoring lined vessel plant, detecting rise in surface temperature where the refractory linings have broken down, acting as an invaluable tool for this type of industry.

Multi Change Thermal Paints withstand hostile environments and prove a valuable asset, particularly when used in conjunction with gas turbines and jet engines. Being the only paint of its type known to retain its surface adhesion at these temperatures thus offering a high degree of protection from erosion. Used extensively in rocketry and high speed flight technology, these paints prove to be an invaluable tool in thermal measurement.

Some paints are available in a Polyurethane type finish.

All Thermal Paints are time/temperature dependent and in being so, such paints have a trigger temperature below their specified rating.

A 235°C/455°F Thermal Indicating paint after 1 hour would require only a sustained temperature of 218°C/424°F to change its colour, however, a temperature of 180°C/356°F will not cause a colour change of the paint, therefore such a paint could be recommended for work on projects which do not exceed the normal running conditions of 180°C/356°F. Being a general guide only, specific details should always be requested. To obtain further advice we will need the following information:

  • (a) The type of surface to be painted, i.e. metal, stone, etc.
  • (b) Required trigger temperature
  • (c) The surface temperature under normal conditions
  • (d) The ambient temperature

CAUTION: It is, when testing, advisable to apply two coats of thermal paint. No undercoat is necessary when used for test purposes. When calculating requirements allow 1 litre per 6 sq. metres.


Temperature control with Crayons

Crayons are an alternative way to control temperature when there is a lack of space, or when temperatures rise above 290ºC where strips can't be used.

When applied to pre-heated surfaces, if colour change takes place:

(a) within 1-2 seconds, the temperature is within +/- 5ºC of its rating

(b) instantly, the temperature is higher than its rating

(c) after two seconds, the temperature is lower than its rating

Temperature monitoring in the textile industry

Temperature measuring devices specially designed for their use in textile industries. This temperature control prevents the over-heating which could afterwards cause broken fibers, and also alerts when heating is weak giving place to a fragile union between cloths.

Irreversible TDI Temperature sensor labels HACCP

The TDI irreversible temperature indicator labels are designed to withstand the extreme conditions within an Industrial Dishwasher, allowing equipment cleanliness standards to be monitored during disinfection processes. The TDI asures that the selected temperature in the dishwasher has been achieved, that is indicated with a permanent change in colour. Dishwashers used for catering services usually work within 60 to 66º C, but nowadays, the minimum temperature should be 71ºC which is the reference temperature where the materials are considered to be disinfected.

This thermometer has been specifically designed to withstand the conditions undergone in the washing cycle, including the resistance to the agressive chemical substances applied. All of that without losing its capacity to monitor the temperature correctly. Hobart, known dishwasher manufacturer, collaborated when creating this device. Its final design has a size inferior to the one of a stamp. TDI's secret to succeed is the adhesive material used, which not only stands the whole washing cycle but then is easy to remove by us to attach to the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) report.

Micro temperature indicators

Micro-Indicators are temperature sensitive strips with a reduced size which makes them specially useful to record increases in temperature in electronic devices such as condensers, resistances, transistors and many others, to prevent malfunctions. These thermometers are very easy to use: You just have to stick them on the device. When the critical temperature is reached the strip turns black revealing a posible malfunction. As these strips rest on the surface to be monitored they give a precise reading of the exact temperature the device undergoes. Furthermore the strips can be attached to a document as part of a quality control record if required. There are three main types of Micro Indicator which are selected depending on the kind of temperature control required:
